A glance over types of cement in India

Cement is a powder made by calcining clay, lime and mixed with water to make mortar or mixed with sand, gravel and other substances to form a concrete mixture which is used in application over surfaces. Generally the cement used in India is ordinary Portland cement. This cement comes in different grades which would be discussed later. Ordinary Portland cement is the most common powder preferred by engineers and architects.  Because of its concreteness and hardness, this cement is preferred over pozzolanic cement.

The ordinary Portland cement comes in grades such as 33 grade Portland cement, 43 and 53. The most commonly used amidst these is the 33 grade Portland cement because of its hydration process and low heat emission. Elaborating these types of cement grades:
1.      33 grade cement- as stated above, it is the most commonly used cement by the architect engineers. Used worldwide, it is very hard mixes fell with water and its rigidity increases with time.
2.      43 grade- this is another grade cement also used by some engineers. It is used where the period of dryness of the cement varies between 1-28 days. So the structural engineers use this cement for fixing the RCC pillars.
3.      53 grade cement- it is the cement used in huge buildings and is highly concrete solid enough which gets firm even more after dryness. Though it comes quite costly thus the price is slightly high.

Features of ordinary Portland cement

1.      It starts attaining hardness within the first 3-7 days of manufacture and gets complete rigidness within 28 days of application.
2.      It`s a low alkali cement and thus is devoid of chemical reactions after mixing with other chemical solutions.
3.      The grip and hold of Portland cement is strong and it prevents seepage and leakage after the application. The cement strengthens its hold on concrete structures.
4.      It is cheap, durable and easily afforded by people.
The top cement producers in India
1.      Ultratech cement- it is a part of Aditya Birla Group company and is the largest cement manufacturer in India. With an estimated production of approx 6.4 crore tones of cement, ultratech cements is the largest exporters of cement in India.  The company is run by business tycoon Anil Ambani.
